Want To Know A Secret?

These last couple weeks at Shoreline, we were sharing how we can make a difference, both for now and eternity, by serving. As believers, our purpose is to make God famous, with the ultimate goal of enjoying Him forever. At the core, our purpose on earth, is to help others know God. To me, serving is a simple step to making Him known. I believe, being served by kind, joyful people could be a step for others to be open to a relationship with God. Doesn’t it say somewhere in the Bible, “It’s God’s loving kindness that leads us to repentence?” It reminds me of the time I helped a mom with a few children get her groceries into her car. She looked at me a bit suspicious. Though she was guarded initially, she appreciated the help. Hopefully, that mom felt God’s love and compassion for her in that moment. Another time, I decided to bring a meal to an elderly couple in my neighborhood. She opened the door, received the meal and asked how I knew she just lost her mother and was caring for her husband. I didn’t have any idea what she was talking about. She was encouraged that God heard her cry. God leads us to serve, for we are His hands and feet, Christ with skin, if you will. John 1:14 The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood. Jesus modeled serving everywhere he went. In the church and the community. John 2: In His first miracle, he turned water into wine, serving the wedding party. John 5: Then He healed a man paralyzed for thirty seven years. Again in John 5: He served a large crowd by borrowing a boys lunch and multiplying it to feed the 5000+. As followers of Christ, we follow His example and we serve\\. In Matthew 20: A mother of two young adult men asked Jesus to recognize her sons as leaders in His Kingdom. He took the opportunity and used it as teaching moment for His disciples, the mother and her two sons. His said in Matthew 20:25 “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among us must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” If you want to do great things, serve. Serving people simply because you love God and you want to make Him famous. Serving motivated by love always wins! It’s a great adventure when you serve. I have alot of stories, I bet you do too. I’d love to hear yours. Please post them on facebook; Shoreline Church or leave a comment on this blog. Go Serve somebody and make a difference! It’s so much fun.
