Right Isn’t Always Easy – brief read /Hey Girls, register for Shine2012 shinewomen.com

I had my annual dental exam and cleaning on my day off. Not my idea of a great time, however, you do what you gotta do. That’s when I had the thought, “doing the right thing isn’t always easy.”
Then I went to thinking of some of the “right, not easy things,” I have the opportunity to do on a regular basis. As a mom, making a huge supper for two teenage boys at 9 pm on a week night after football practice when I’m ready for bed… Or driving to Leander and back a few times a day to get my son back and forth to school…. Or when I’m feeling the nudging to pray for a stranger (new friend) in the grocery store line when I’m in a hurry. You get it, the right thing isn’t always the easy thing.
The perfect example of this is when Jesus was in the garden of Gethsemane struggling about going to the cross for you and for me. He was even sweating drops of blood (Luke 22:44). Well in the dentist chair, I was a bit anxious, but sweating blood, I don’t think so.

In the garden, Jesus surrendered to His Father, saying, “not my will but your will be done.” That moment of surrender was when Jesus got the strength to go to the cross.
As I was opening my mouth for the hygienist, I whispered, “I surrender to your will today Lord.” Pretty much instantly, I received peace, my shoulders relaxed, I took a deep breath and I was ok.
I wonder how much smoother life would be if we have the attitude of “not my will, but yours, Jesus”? Maybe more people would get prayed for in the grocery lines, I’d have more joy during late meals with my boys, and perhaps more peace as I’m driving back & forth to school.

I want to encourage you to start out the day with the attitude of “not my will, Lord, but yours be done”. Just wait and see the great adventure God leads you on. Maybe you will be praying for people or inviting them to church or your small group. Or maybe you will sponsor a girl for Shine or invite a girlfriend to come with you. All I know is submitting your will to God may not always be easy, but it is always right.
